Poetry Corner: Maiden Name

Odd how the emails come in your maiden name

Like the old days so many years ago

Of course, now it’s not the same

Tears have passed and the toll of time

Took us apart and closer to the grave

Without conscious choice, not by deliberate thought

I am reminded of the age when I eagerly awaited your message

Excited and naive dreaming of forever more

Never exploring the diseased and rotting core

Yet still, I eagerly await that message with your name

Not knowing if détente is in wax or wane

Any glory days have long since passed

The long dark shadow over all those years been cast

Nothing left as fond or precious, smashed in anger each one until the last.
